Packing your Bedroom

When you move house, one of the bigger jobs you’ll face is packing up the contents of the bedrooms. If you tackle the tasks in the right order, it will make the process easier and more efficient.

Clean and clear

First of all, get rid of anything you don’t need. You might be able to sell some items on eBay or similar sites and you could also save money by reducing the volume of articles which will need to be moved.Clean everything else, because it makes more sense to do it now than to bring dust into your new home.

Start small

Begin by packing small items and anything you won’t need for a while. As a rule of thumb, you should take clothes from the bottoms of the drawers or the back of the wardrobe because they probably don’t get used as much. Specialist wardrobe cartons are a very convenient way to move your clothes as it will mean you don’t have to fold and re-iron them, saving you time when you unpack. Your moving company should be able to supply you with these, if not give eco Movers a call and we can deliver them for you in advance of your move. If you are packing books, don’t put too many in one box because they are quite heavy. And remember to label the boxes as you go, so you won’t have to unseal any to find out what’s inside.

Smaller furniture

Deal with pieces such as bedside cabinets and dressing tables before the very large items. If they were self-assembled, you should disassemble them because they are more likely to break than traditionally-made pieces. If they are to be moved intact, do you best to fasten drawers closed, or wrap the items using specialist wrapping materials called paper blankets and secure them with tape.

Larger items

Once the room has been emptied of smaller furniture, or if it’s packed and stacked to one side, you will have cleared a large enough space to deal with very large items, including the wardrobe and the bed. If possible, dismantle these, but as they are so large, you might want to get the experts to prepare them. Eco Movers are flexible and very experienced so we can cope with the jobs that are too awkward for you. Just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
